Is My Cup Empty? by Sherri Graves Smith Review and Giveaway

February 10, 2016 by Valarie Budayr

Sherri Graves Smith is an award-winning author of children’s books and a popular, motivational speaker. She currently has three picture book series with more than 50 titles in print: the Lil’ Sherri series, the Game Day Rules series, and a series of counting and alphabet books.Sherri Graves Smith

Is My Cup Empty? (Mascot Books, 2014), the first book in the Lil’ Sherri series, is about hope, optimism, and perseverance. Sherri’s inspiration for this series is very personal and best understood in her own words, which also provide some biographical information: “Many lessons instilled during my childhood prepared me for the adversity that I faced as an adult, including books that I read such as Happiness is a Warm Puppy and The Little Engine That Could. The lessons in my book stem from my outlook on life after battling Stage IV cancer for the past eight years. I was only 36 years old when I was diagnosed. I found out that the cancer had metastasized one week after returning from my honeymoon, and I found myself in a position where all of my hopes, dreams, and plans were empty.” [Read more…]

Candlewick Press

Established in 1991, they are a progressive and creative company, with a steadfast commitment to the best, which is due in part to their rare independence–being 100 percent employee-owned gives them the freedom to publish only the books they believe in. Their reputation for excellence in creating beautiful, high-quality children’s books is accomplished through a staff of dedicated, focused, and energetic individuals who enjoy an innovative, team-oriented work environment. Welcome Gold Sponsor Author Tori Nighthawk!

December 29, 2015 by Valarie Budayr

Tori Nighthawk caught our attention and hearts before we even cracked the cover of her wonderful book Don’t Judge a Bird by Its Feathers.

Tori is a 16-year-old gifted artist capable of creating detailed imagery from memory as well as from references. Although she enjoys drawing many kinds of animals, she has always held a soft spot for birds, and has created countless illustrations and paintings of them.

Give a Social Media Shout-Out to Your Favorite Multicultural Author!

December 19, 2015 by Valarie Budayr

The MCCBD Team have been working with the brilliant and creative Susan Raab of Raab and Associates for Multicultural Children’s Book Day. Susan came up with the idea for anyone to recognize their two favorite diversity, inclusive and multicultural authors and illustrators. You don’t have to be an author or illustrator to participate.

Multicultural Children's Book Day author shout out

It works like this:

The Friends of MCCBD $25 Shout Out and Recognition of Author Friends

Gift a shout-out to two author friends who have books with diversity themes. MCCBD will not only acknowledge your shout-out on social media, we will create a blog post with these authors/books naming you as the gift-giver.

Nominate and Donate HERE to support the cause and nominate two authors for virtual Shout-Outs!
