10th Year Monthly Celebration Giveaway and MCBD Updates

March 21, 2022 by Frances Evans

10th Year Monthly Celebration Giveaway

I remember when Multicultural Children’s Book Day started 9 years ago. There was so much excitement because the vision of two amazing book-loving moms Valarie Budayr from Audrey Press Books and Mia Wenjen from Pragmatic Mom was coming to fruition. It was really happening on January 27th, 2012.  A day to not only raise awareness around kid’s books that celebrate diversity but also get more of these types of books into classrooms and libraries. BUT FIRST, here’s how YOU can support Multicultural Children’s Book Day!

The online event/holiday takes the last Friday of every January so this year it will fall on 1/29/21 and this will be our 8th Multicultural Children’s Book Day celebration! We would love to have you participate in our upcoming event and here are a few ways you can do so:

  1. Donate Books: For our next online event, we will have hundreds of book reviewers signed up to review diverse children’s books on their blogs or on Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube. Authors and publishers have the option of offering copies of their multicultural children’s books to our reviewers to review and write a social media review about. There are no guarantees that we will be able to match your book to a reviewer(s), but if this interests you, let me know. We will provide you with names and addresses and you mail your book directly to the reviewer.

Go here to sign up as a book donator.

  1. Multiple options for Sponsorship: Sponsorship is not only a great way to support this event; it is an excellent way to get your name (and your books) in front of thousands of readers. All of our Sponsors get a name mention within the hundreds of reviews that get posted from December through to the end of January and also on the sites of our 26 CoHosts sites.

Go here to download our Sponsorship Packet and learn about participation that will fit any budget.

What Can We Do with Garbage? An English/Indonesian Book for Kids (+ a Giveaway!)

October 3, 2016 by Valarie Budayr

Review by MCCBD Project Manager, Becky Flansburg

Bilingual books are in high demand from parents, teachers and librarians, but it’s not often that one sees a English/Indonesian book much less one with such a timely topic.

“What Can We Do with Garbage?” was written by author Visi Asriningtyas and Visi is keen to write about environmental science – engineering related subjects, mostly for children to help them live in a more environmentally safe world for their everyday life. She was born in Yogyakarta, Indonesia in 1975.
