June 21st is the official first day of summer! It is the perfect time for children to explore the world through books. Whether you’re planning a staycation or a vacation, reading can transport your child to far-off lands, introduce them to diverse cultures and people, and inspire their imagination.
Here at Read Your World, we want to encourage children to read books from diverse cultures and perspectives. By reading books that reflect different experiences and perspectives, children can gain empathy and understanding for those who are different from them. This summer, why not participate in Read Your World by creating a summer reading list for your children that includes diverse books?
We’ve compiled multicultural and diverse book lists for you and your children.
To help you track your child’s reading progress and set goals, we’ve created a free printable summer reading tracker. You can download it here and print as many copies as you need!

On the last day of the summer, September 23, we will be giving away a prize pack of diverse children’s books to one lucky participant. To enter, simply share a photo of your child reading a diverse book on social media (Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram) and tag us using the hashtag #ReadYourWorldSummer and #ReadYourWorld. We will announce the winner on Monday, September 25, 2023, on Instagram.
So, this summer, why not take the Read Your World challenge and encourage your children to read books from diverse cultures and perspectives? Not only will they have fun reading, but they will also gain empathy and understanding for those who are different from them. Happy summer reading!
