Help Us Change the World, One Book at a Time

March 20, 2023 by Frances Evans

If you turn on the TV news, scroll through social media, or read/watch the news on your computer you’ll come across headlines such as “Banned in the USA: The Growing Movement to Ban Books”, “Why Book Ban Efforts Are Spreading Across the U.S.”, “Texas leads US in books banned from schools,” and “Florida school book bans: Second highest rate in the nation.”

On TikTok alone, the hashtag #bookbans has 11.6 million views! And just last year, we had author Andrew Maraniss guest post on the Tennessee State Bill to Ban Books and Criminalize Librarians.

My friends, this is very alarming!

For over 10 years, #ReadYourWorld’s mission is to not only raise awareness for the kid’s books that celebrate diversity but to get more of these books into classrooms and libraries.

We have supported the work of hundreds of authors and publishers. With their sponsorship, we have been able to give FREE thousands of books (and e-books) to children across the country and the world.  We offer FREE classroom kits and resources that are available to all and offer free live author interviews on Instagram to our followers. By elevating the voices of multicultural and diverse authors, we have brought their stories to the attention of kid-lit readers who might not have known about them before.

If you’re reading this post (or our newsletter) it means that you support our work, and we thank you. Now more than ever, we are asking you to continue supporting our work and help us fight book bans!

With today’s increasing ban on books, you may have been wondering, what can you do to help?

Here’s how:

We are having our first-ever online auction and need donated items to help us continue our mission. Getting our fundraising campaign off the ground is only possible with your donations! Increasing the number of items will allow us to raise more money.
