Climate Change: Understanding Environmental Justice

August 3, 2023 by Frances Evans

If you’ve been following the news,  you’ll know that July was the hottest month globally in recorded history.  The United Nations has warned that the era of global boiling, yes, you read that correctly global boiling was here.  It is no longer global warming and this my friends is scary.

At Read Your World, our mission extends beyond promoting diverse and multicultural books; we also seek out books that leave a lasting impact on our young readers, nurturing tomorrow’s adults.

This year’s classroom kit is Climate Change: Understanding Environmental Justice.

The Read Your World Team and Contributors have gathered a plethora of valuable resources designed to use in your classroom or homeschool. Included in this kit are comprehensive lesson plans catering to all grade levels. Additionally, you’ll find a book list featuring themes such as global warming, climate change, environmental justice heroes, ways to address climate change and make a positive impact, and insights into the ecosystem. Additionally, this kit also includes ways to encourage your kids’ cognitive development with engaging activities like “Creating a Rainforest in a Bottle,” an informative printable on “Protecting Our Planet,” and “Five Ocean Yoga Poses for Kids” to energize their bodies.

You can get your FREE kit here.

We hope that our classroom kit, “Climate Change: Understanding Environmental Justice,” proves to be an invaluable resource in tackling the challenges related to climate change and environmental justice.

This kit would not have been possible without the contribution of the Read Your World Team, Barefoot Books, Language Lizard, and Authors: Meera Sriram, Maritza Martínez Mejía, Giselle Shardlow, Deedee Cummings, and Irinia Skibenko.  Thank you!!!

Stay tuned for our upcoming virtual event celebrating Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month:  “Unique Perspectives on Hispanic/Latinx Children’s Books in Raising Awareness about Climate Change.”
