Author Visit: Multicultural Children’s Book Author Tiffney Cambridge

March 17, 2015 by Valarie Budayr

Tiffney Cambridge

Readers may best know Tiffney Cambridge from her hit VH1 series “Marrying The Game.” But readers may not be aware that this wildly talented mother of two is not only a teacher, but an author! Tiffney has recently released her new children’s book titled “The Little Girl Who Lost Her Smile.”

Tiffney Cambridge

The Little Girl Who Lost Her Smile is a glimpse into the heart of Treasure, a once happy little girl whose family experiences separation. The story explores the many emotions that can arise as children question whether they will be happy again as the bonds of family are tested. This wonderful book provides reassurance and comfort to children experiencing divorce or separation.

The Little Girl Who Los Her Smile
Tiffney is an authority on the topic of separation/divorce and co-parenting, as an African-American woman.  She has been an educator teaching inner city youth in the Inglewood Unified School District for over 17 years. A graduate of the University of Southern California, Tiffney has earned her Masters degree in Multicultural Education.

We feel this extraordinary multicultural children’s book is a great resource for parents going through separation and divorce and can act as a tool to help educate their children and themselves on how to cope with this major life change.

1.What is your favorite letter of the alphabet and why?

My favorite letter of the alphabet is “L.” I like this letter because it is the first letter of my mother’s name, and because it is a letter that is almost halfway through the alphabet. The letter “L” reminds that I’ve gotten half way through something, and only have a short distance left  before I am done.

2. What do you want readers to know about your latest book?
I want readers to know by reading “The Little Girl Who Lost Her Smile” that we all go through situations that can cause us to lose our smiles – but through faith and determination – we ultimately get them back.
3. As an author, how do you know when you have discovered an idea for your next book?
I know I have discovered a new idea for a book when the idea is relevant, reflective, and resonates with purpose!
4. What was the catalyst for creating your latest book?
I created “The Little Girl Who Lost Her Smile” to speak to the many unspoken, unheard voices of young children who are dealing with the challenges of separation or divorce. I’ve found  that many children have unresolved emotional issues that they often carry  into adulthood because when they were young, they had no platform to discuss their feelings about what happens in so many families. The story of  ” The Little Girl Who Lost Her Smile” allows children the opportunity to discuss these feelings, and gives helpful insight to parents who are co parenting.
5.What’s next? What projects/books/events do you have in the works that you would like to share?
Currently, I am on a promotional book tour promoting “The Little Girl Who Lost Her Smile.” I will be in Minnesota at the Mom’s Rock Convention May 2 & 3. I am also hosting local book readings & signings in cities across the U.S. and will be visiting local children’s hospitals in those cities as well. I am also currently working on the second book in this book  series. My son Justice wants a book written from a boy’s perspective! In addition, I continue to support and am an advocate of Breast Cancer Research.
