Spotlight on a Bronze Sponsor: Author Gayle Swift

January 21, 2017 by Valarie Budayr

Author Gayle Swift

Gayle Swift

Gayle is a co-founder of GIFT Family Services which provides adoptive families with coaching before, during and after adoption. She’s the author of the award-winning book, ABC, Adoption & Me: A Multicultural Picture Book. Gayle has presented break-out sessions at both NACAC’s annual conference as well as the Adoption Summit Experience. She writes the blog, Writing to Connect which reviews children’s books and then adds an adoption-attuned insight.

An adoptive mother of two now-adult children and a former foster parent, Gayle H. Swift is also a certified coach, co-founder of GIFT (Growing Intentional Families Together, an NLP practitioner, former teacher, and former newsletter editor. A forty-eight-year survivor of ovarian cancer, she believes in the joy of the present moment and the blessing of family relationships. In her travels with her family, Gayle has zip-lined in Costa Rica, Paraglided in Peru, hiked to the Sun Gate above the citadel of Machu Picchu, and trekked the Mendenhall glacier in Alaska but parenting proved to be the greatest adventure of her life.

ABC Adoption and ME

A book about adoption that celebrates the miracle of family and addresses the difficult issues as well. With charming, exuberant illustrations and a diverse representation of families, ABC, Adoption & Me will warm hearts, deepen understanding of what it means to be an adoptive family and provide teaching moments that bring families closer, connected in truth, compassion, and joy. This is a brightly illustrated children’s book using the alphabet to touch on many aspects of the adoptive family and makes for great conversation starters. This Multicultural Picture Book has a warm, nurturing tone. Its exuberant illustrations create teachable moments for some harder thoughts & feelings that adopted kids often find difficult to discuss. One adopted child said, “Most books only talk about parents loving their child but rarely touched on his feelings about the why, the wondering, the questioning.” Another commented on the illustrations, “They look different–like us!” This children’s picture book written by Gayle H.Swift and Casey Anne Swift was illustrated by Paul Griffin.

Named a Favorite Read of 2013 by Adoptive Families, (the award-winning national adoption magazine.)
