Sabaa Tahir’s Favorite Diverse Books & 3 Book Set GIVEAWAY: #ReadYourWorld Book Jam 2022

January 5, 2022 by Mia Wenjen

#ReadYourWorld Book Jam 2022

Multicultural Children’s Book and The Children’s Book Council are thrilled to team up to present the 2022 #ReadYourWorld Book Jam. Please welcome Sabaa Tahir with her list of favorite diverse books.

We are giving away 3 sets of both graphic novels by Sabaa Tahir: An Ember in the Ashes original graphic novel, A Thief Among the Trees, and her upcoming release, A Spark Within the Forge. To enter, please fill out the Rafflecopter at the bottom.

A Spark Within the Forge (Ember in Ashes series)by Sabaa Tahir

Before they were torn asunder, Laia lived happily and quietly with her Nan, Pop, and brother Darin within the Scholar district of Martial-ruled Serra. Although Laia is afraid to venture outside her home due to the heavy Martial presence, Darin loves to explore all parts of their home city… even those that are forbidden. A chance encounter with a famed swordsmith leads Darin down a path that pulls him away from his family but towards hope for his people. Meanwhile, Laia is forced to take her brother’s place accompanying Pop to combat a dangerous illness spreading quickly through Serra. When Laia discovers a surprising cure, will she brave exposure and the heavily-patrolled streets so she can save the city and someone she loves? [young adult graphic novel, ages 14 and up] In stores February 8, 2022!

Sabaa Tahir’s Favorite Diverse Books

Amina’s Song by Hena Khan

Hena’s first book in this duology, Amina’s Voice, was an instant classic and is now on reading lists all over the country. I expect the same will be true for Amina’s song, as Hena brings the same heart, thoughtfulness, and wit to the adventures of the titular character. [middle grade, ages 8 and up]

Amari and the Night Brothers by BB Alston

I received this book as an ARC and my then 10-year-old stole it and read it. I knew it was good when I caught him sneak-reading it with a flashlight long after bedtime. And indeed, I ended up tearing through it myself, loving both the adventure, friendships, and humor of the book. [middle grade, ages 8 and up]

Instructions for Dancing by Nicola Yoon

What can I say about Nicola Yoon’s latest? It will make you laugh, cheer, gasp and cry, all in the space of a few hundred pages. The book is romantic and fast-paced, but it is also a moving meditation on grief. [young adult, ages 12 and up]

This Woven Kingdom by Tahereh Mafi

I feel like I’ve been waiting for fantasy from Taherah Mafi for years–and wow, does she deliver! This book carried me away to a completely different world, so much so that when I looked up, I was confused as to why I wasn’t seeing any jinn around. Definitely a book to savor over a hot cup of tea on a cold night! [young adult, ages 13 and up]

Wings of Ebony by J. Elle

J.Elle combines teen angst, magic, and romance so well that you don’t even notice the pages flying by. Her sequel, Ashes of Gold, is out in January, and I can’t wait. [young adult, ages 14 and up]

Huda F Are You by Huda Fahmy

I first encountered Huda’s work on Instagram, and her hilarious and honest insights into life always make my day better. An entire book of those insights? An absolute delight. [young adult, ages 14 and up]

Sabaa Tahir

Sabaa Tahir is the author of the An Ember in the Ashes series. She grew up in California’s Mojave Desert at her family’s eighteen-room motel. There, she spent her time devouring fantasy novels, raiding her brother’s comic book stash, ad playing guitar badly. She began writing while working nights as a newspaper editor. She likes thunderous indie rock, garish socks, and all things nerd. To learn more about Sabaa, please check out her website and follow her on Twitter @sabaatahir and Instagram @sabaatahir.

Join us Friday, January 28th at 9 pm EST for our #ReadYourWorld Twitter party. We will be giving away book bundles of 9 books each every five minutes!
