What Can We Do with Garbage? An English/Indonesian Book for Kids (+ a Giveaway!)

October 3, 2016 by Valarie Budayr

Review by MCCBD Project Manager, Becky Flansburg

Bilingual books are in high demand from parents, teachers and librarians, but it’s not often that one sees a English/Indonesian book much less one with such a timely topic.

“What Can We Do with Garbage?” was written by author Visi Asriningtyas and Visi is keen to write about environmental science – engineering related subjects, mostly for children to help them live in a more environmentally safe world for their everyday life. She was born in Yogyakarta, Indonesia in 1975.

Whisper of the Woods by D.G. Driver (Do YOU believe in Tree Spirits?)

September 17, 2016 by Valarie Budayr

Review by MCCBD Project Manager, Becky Flansburg

Yet another awesome book from D. G. Driver…

D.G. Driver

That truly was my first thought when I finished the final page of Whisper of the Woods and sat for a moment with my thoughts whirling. I connected with D.G. several years ago during the very first Multicultural Children’s Book Day. From the start, Cry of the Sea intrigued me and once I settled in to read it, it hook from from beginning to end. [Read more…]

#30DaysRamadan Kidlit Book Giveaway: Amal’s Ramadan and Amal’s Eid

June 23, 2016 by Valarie Budayr

30 Days of Ramadan Kidlit Book Giveaway: Amal’s Ramadan and Amal’s Eid (FIVE chances to win!)

Multicultural Children’s Book Day has joined forces with powerhouse multicultural children’s book publisher Wisdom Tales Press to create a much-needed initiative

Given the recent backlash and misconceptions in the media regarding Muslims and Islam, Multicultural Children’s Book Day will be focusing on the Muslim holiday of Ramadan June 5th-July 5th 2016 as a way to bring awareness and understanding about our Muslim neighbors via the pages of children’s literature.

30 Days of Ramadan: Understanding Our Friends is a celebration of children’s literature which includes characters and storylines that celebrate being Muslim. Books profiled will include topics like Muslims and the religion of Islam, books which specifically look at the Ramadan holiday and/or the authors that are Muslim.

MCCBD2016 Recap and some big Thank You’s

February 11, 2016 by Valarie Budayr

We did it!

Our third Multicultural Children’s Book Day: #ReadYourWorld {January 27th} was a HUGE success again!! Over 170+ bloggers ,  21 major sponsors, over 70 Author Sponsors, a boatload of generous book donators and many, many authors, teachers, parents, readers and librarians showed up to read, visit and enjoy the multicultural book titles, discussions and book-related activities!

Here are some highlights from our 2016 event, but first, some thoughts from the Multicultural Children’s Book Day Team

Valarie Budayr (Co-founder):

Valarie Budayr2

I never imagined that I’d ever be a part of a global awareness project that benefits children to the tune of millions of people. It’s an incredible gift to be able to give back via a project which has everyone participating at their highest good. It’s also truly incredible that this event has achieved that while not singling anyone out for their differences, but celebrating them as an integral and cornerstone part of our community. We’ve created this incredible moment which validates and gratifies those who need to be seen and heard while connecting the world to each other through books. [Read more…]
