Read an eBook Week: Spotlight on Read Your World: A Guide to Multicultural Children’s Books for Parents and Educators

March 5, 2017 by Valarie Budayr

Read an ebook week

First conceived by author Rita Toews more than nine years ago as a response to the stagnant acceptance of electronic reading, Read An E-Book Week has slowly built a strong international following among digitally published authors and readers alike.

This year’s event, which began March 5th and carried through to March 11th, brought authors from eleven countries together for a week of e-reading. Many organizations continue to celebrate this event all month-long with e-book reading events and activities. [Read more…]

MCBD 2017 Recap, Stats and very big THANK YOUS! #readyourworld

February 13, 2017 by Valarie Budayr

It’s only been a few weeks since the mind-blowingly awesome 1/27/17 MCBD celebration and we can promise all of you that we are still recovering!

Again, the MCBD team was touched and elevated by the overwhelming support and enthusiasm surrounding our diverse children’s literature online celebration. In the days following the crescendo of the event (the crazy-fun Twitter Party) we all have spent hours sifting through the amazing thoughts, comments and requests that were offered up during our Twitter Party on 1/27/17 and picked the best-of-the-best share with our valued 2017 Sponsors.

Here is just a sampling of the Special Moments we LOVED from Multicultural Children’s Book Day 2017.

Go HERE to view this info-packed blog post and you can also get a larger sample of our Twitter Party Storified HERE.

Another notable accomplishment we pulled off during the fast-paced months preceding MCBD is the fact we published an eBook as a fundraiser for ongoing MCBD projects! It is currently for sale on Amazon here.

Spotlight on a Bronze Sponsor: Author Charlotte Riggle

January 24, 2017 by Valarie Budayr

Author Charlotte Riggle

Charlotte Riggle is a writer and a reader and a passionate advocate of picture books. Her first book, Catherine’s Pascha, is as beautiful as Pascha itself, with words that sparkle and illustrations that glow with the joy of the feast. Catherine doesn’t like vegetables. She doesn’t like naps. She doesn’t like it when her mom combs her hair. She loves hot dogs, chocolate cake, and her best friend, Elizabeth. Most of all, she loves Pascha! Pascha, the Orthodox Christian Easter, is celebrated in the middle of the night, with processions and candles and bells and singing. And Catherine insists that she’s not a bit sleepy.
