MCBD 2022 Recap, thank yous and celebration!

February 6, 2022 by Frances Evans

A whole year of planning, organizing, and preparing comes down to one day and one day only, Multicultural Children’s Book Day!  One of the best things about MCBD is our Twitter Party, the excitement going on for an hour, the tweets, retweets, and the book giveaway bundles!  The excitement continues on social media even if the event is over. You can see all of the pictures posted by schools, parents, authors, teachers, and librarians celebrating #ReadYourWorld. Below you’ll see pictures from Twitterverse and Instagram, too!

However, all of this wouldn’t be possible without the support of our 823 reviewers, 166 donators, 854 matches, 1 super platinum medallion sponsor, 1 platinum medallion sponsor, 5 gold medallion sponsors, 3 silver medallion sponsors, 21 bronze medallion sponsors, 37 authors, and 71 sponsors.

Diverse Children’s Book Reviewers: Get a Free Book for MCBD2021

October 24, 2019 by Valarie Budayr

If you love diverse books for kids and have a social media platform to share a review on, we want to give you a FREE diversity book to review!

January 31, 2020, will mark the 7th year of Multicultural Children’s Book Day’s (MCBD) quest to get culturally diverse books into the hands of children, parents, teachers, and librarians. As you may know, Multicultural Children’s Book Day (MCBD) is a non-profit that works with authors to get their books reviewed during our online event and also works to get free diversity children’s books into the hands of young readers.

Multicultural Children's Book Day Official 2020 Poster

In a nutshell; you don’t have to be a blogger to review multicultural children’s books for our MCBD2020 (1/31/20) online event. You just need to have a love of diversity in children’s literature and be willing to share on your social media platforms such as Facebook (Pages only-no Facebook profiles), Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, or YouTube. We encourage honest Amazon reviews of assigned books whenever possible as well.

SIGN UP HERE to be an MCBD2020 book reviewer or use the embedded form below.

(Signup deadline is 12/15/19)

Reviewers are then “matched” with an author or publisher that will supply them with a free children’s book to review. Reviewers are encouraged to read the books and share their thoughts on the book (a basic book review) in the form of a complete review post that can (optional) contain fun book-related activities that will bring the story to life.

Once the book review you, the reviewer, write is posted via your blog and/or your social media  (any time between January 1 and January 31, 2020 is good). The MCBD linky will go live on January 31st 2020 and reviewers are invited to “link up” their blog post on the Linky that will be found on the MCBD website. plus any of our CoHosts’ sites

Reviewer sign-up deadline is 12/15/19 (NOTE: We will not be shipping out any books for the 2020 online event until Nov/Dec of 2019!

Reviewers can sign up via a Google Sign-up and review a multicultural children’s book for this event.

MCBD 2017 Recap, Stats and very big THANK YOUS! #readyourworld

February 13, 2017 by Valarie Budayr

It’s only been a few weeks since the mind-blowingly awesome 1/27/17 MCBD celebration and we can promise all of you that we are still recovering!

Again, the MCBD team was touched and elevated by the overwhelming support and enthusiasm surrounding our diverse children’s literature online celebration. In the days following the crescendo of the event (the crazy-fun Twitter Party) we all have spent hours sifting through the amazing thoughts, comments and requests that were offered up during our Twitter Party on 1/27/17 and picked the best-of-the-best share with our valued 2017 Sponsors.

Here is just a sampling of the Special Moments we LOVED from Multicultural Children’s Book Day 2017.

Go HERE to view this info-packed blog post and you can also get a larger sample of our Twitter Party Storified HERE.

Another notable accomplishment we pulled off during the fast-paced months preceding MCBD is the fact we published an eBook as a fundraiser for ongoing MCBD projects! It is currently for sale on Amazon here.

Spotlight on a Sponsor: Wisdom Tales Press

January 21, 2017 by Valarie Budayr

We have so many things to be grateful and happy for here at MCCBD headquarters. There are so many exciting things in the works right now! But another exciting/gratitude moment is because Multicultural children’s book publisher Wisdom Tales Press is joining us again (for the 4th year!) as one of our Bronze Sponsors!

Wisdom Tales Press

Queens are the New Princesses! Queen Girls are books that empower girls to follow their dreams

January 2, 2017 by Valarie Budayr

Queen Girls

Queen Girls is a collection of stories about inspirational women from the past turned into fairy tales. Their mission is to create children’s books that empower girls to follow their dreams and envision them as possible. This is the reason why the stories are based on real women.

‘Often times, classic stories highlight the strength, courage and skills of men while female characters are often stereotyped or one-dimensional. Did you know that 57% of children’s books have male protagonists, while 31% are female?[*1] We believe that we should be telling different stories to our children.’

They also believe in giving back to the community and this is why they stand on a One for One model.  Every time you purchase a book, another will be donated to local and international organizations who are fighting illiteracy and empowering girls. [Read more…]
