Help Us Help Teachers! {Plus More Free Books and Resources}

November 17, 2020 by Valarie Budayr

Gratitude is Alive and Well

On December 1, 2020, Multicultural Children’s Book Day will participate (for the first time!) in #GivingTuesday, a global day of celebrations and generosity.

#GivingTuesday is an opportunity for people worldwide to stand together in unity while also supporting causes that touch their hearts.

This Giving Tuesday, MCBD wants to rally our supporters, reviewers, authors, and sponsors to help us help teachers by sending a free book of their classroom bookshelf via our FREE Diverse Books for Teachers and Classrooms. We have hundreds of schools waiting patiently for a multicultural YA, chapter, or picture book for their students.

How can you help? Go to our #GivingTuesday Page on the MCBD website and choose your level of giving.

Did you know that a $120 Donation will help MCBD get 20 books to teachers/schools? It’s no secret that in-person schooling is a struggle right now thanks to an unprecedented global pandemic. Our teachers and principals are among some of the many unsung heroes in our children’s lives. A gift of a brand-new diverse book for their classroom bookshelf could be a much-needed bright spot in their day.

Imagine the smiles. The joy. The gratitude. Imagine the awe and wonder when a young reader can “see themselves” in the pages of the book they are reading!

Join us on #GivingTuesday, and let’s rally to keep kids reading while lending a helping hand to one of our many unsung heroes: TEACHERS.

Would you like a FREE diverse YA or picture book for your school library or classroom bookshelf? Then be sure and sign up for The Multicultural Children’s Book Day FREE Diverse Books for Classrooms Campaign–

Multicultural Children’s Book Day is a global non-profit with a mission of raising awareness for the importance of diversity in the books our kids read. They also want to help educators build their classroom library with diverse, inclusive, and multicultural books so GO HERE to learn more!

We also offer a limited number of free Offline Classroom Swag Packs to help schools celebrate our book-ish holiday with their students.

The 2021 Offline Classroom and Library Event Project

Our annual on and offline celebration is celebrated the last Friday in January and our next celebration is 1/29/21 and the money we raise goes towards funding these programs 365 days a year. Learn more here.

Global Giving and a Meaningful Group Chat

November 12, 2020 by Valarie Budayr

There are so many amazing things happening at MCBD Headquarters, we don’t know where to begin!
Here are some highlights, new offerings, and exciting victories that we want you to know about

A Day of Global Giving

MCBD is participating in #GivingTuesday (December 1, 2020) for the first time. As a non-profit, we are always looking for innovative ways to support our FREE Diverse Books for Classrooms project, and #GivingTuesday, a global day of celebrations and generosity.

#GivingTuesday is an opportunity for people worldwide to stand together in unity while also supporting causes that touch their hearts.

This #GivingTuesday, MCBD wants to rally our supporters, reviewers, authors, and sponsors to help us help teachers by sending a free book of their classroom bookshelf via our FREE Diverse Books for Classrooms. We have hundreds of schools waiting patiently for a multicultural YA, chapter, or picture book for their students.

How can you help? Go to our #GivingTuesday Page on the MCBD website and choose your level of giving.

Did you know that a $30 donation will help us get FIVE brand new diverse books into FIVE classrooms? Imagine the smiles. The joy. The gratitude. Imagine the awe and wonder when a young reader can “see themselves” in the pages of the book they are reading!

Join us on #GivingTuesday, and let’s rally to keep kids reading while lending a helping hand to one of our many unsung heroes: TEACHERS.

A Meaningful Group Chat

Our MCBD Facebook Group is growing like crazy! Because of this, our team is working hard to bring even more value and structure to the group to keep it flourishing. If you haven’t popped by the group lately, please do so.
Not only have we shared our vision for the new group rules, but we are also excited about Becky’s new Weekly FB Live called Meaningful Group Friday Nite Chat.

Why “Meaningful Groups?”

A Meaningful Group is an engaged community that comes together for a common purpose, passion, or reason. Also, a community committed to supporting each other. Sounds like the MCBD Facebook Group, yes? Our goal with this reoccurring Facebook Live every Friday nite at 7:00 p.m. Central is to share what’s new and upcoming for Multicultural Children’s Book Day

Then our Hostess with the Mostess, Project Manager Becky Flansburg, will switch to a topic that would appeal to the wide range of group members that we have. Weekly could include topics like blogging, social media, publishing, promotion, and marketing, or even topics from a parent’s perspective work/life balance, time management, anxious kids, etc.

We have an amazing pool of Smart People in this group, and on the MCBD Team, so we want to use our knowledge bank to make our private Facebook Group a Meaningful one.

P.S. These Lives will be archived so they can be watched at a later date too 🙂

You can watch Episode 1, Episode 2, Episode 3, and the latest Friday Nite Chat. Feedback and ideas welcome!
As always, THANK YOU ALL for your support and efforts to keep this diversity in children’s literacy blooming!
