We’re Going Global! Non-USA Diverse Book Reviewers, Authors and Publishers Needed

April 25, 2018 by Valarie Budayr

Hard to believe that 2018 is speeding along and 2019 is inching closer and closer. As the planning for the next Multicultural Children’s Book Day (1/25/19) starts picking up steam, we are also continuing with our plan to take this diverse literacy-based non-profit global! And for that, we need your help. But first, a quick recap:

Since 2012, MCCBD’s main focus has been to raise awareness on the need for books of a diverse nature to be available in homes and classrooms. We have worked tirelessly for 5+ years to not only shine the spotlight on multicultural children’s book authors and publishers but to get books of this nature on shelves and into the hands of young readers. If you are unfamiliar with our organization, feel free to read about our mission here.

Free Resources for All

We also offer many free resources to parents, teachers, and librarians:

  • Classroom Kits: 2016/2017 was Classroom Kindness Kit
  • Classroom Empathy Kit2017/2018: Empathy| Everyone is Welcome Here.
  • FREE Diversity Book Program to Teachers for their classroom library
  • #ReadYourWorld Book Jam 2018: Our collaboration with Children’s Book Council that teams us up with 24 diversity authors and illustrators who give away their books.
  • Our Yearly #ReadYourWorld Twitter Party: During this yearly one-hour Twitter Party, MCBD gives away hundreds of diversity children’s books to the participants, many of which are parents and educators.
  • Diversity Book Lists Resource: A free downloadable booklist that showcases hundreds of the best diverse book titles.
  • Big Giant Linky: A free round-up resource of over 500 diverse kids’ book reviews.

Social Media Leverage: Our 1/27/18 Multicultural Children’s Book Day event garnered over 3 billion social media share impressions over a three-day period.

3,210,943,767: Total number of social media share impressions for January 25-28, 2018.

We’re Going Global!

A New Goal for 2019: The MCBD team is on a mission to not only duplicate these results on a global level, but to connect with global diverse authors, publishers, and book reviewers to help spread awareness of the amazing kids’ books that are available from non-USA sources.

Global Team

To do this, we need to identify these non-US authors, publishers, and organizations with the help of our Global Team. From book donation for schools, Sponsorship packages, being matched with overseas book reviewers and monetary support for this non-profit, there are many ways to get involved and join this gigantic online celebration and important initiative.

As you can see from our 2018 Medallion Level and Author Sponsor Pages, authors and publishers have all embraced this initiative because they know we have the eyes and ears of their end users.

If you have interest in getting involved in Multicultural Children’s Book Day 2019, please sign up via this Google Form and we will loop back around with the necessary information once the event gets closer.  Looking forward to working with you!

Diverse Children’s Book Reviewers | Get a Free Book for #MCBD2018

September 30, 2017 by Valarie Budayr

Diverse Children’s Book Reviewers -We need you for MCCBD 2018!

In years past, we asked for reviewers to sign up to receive a free book in return for a review on their blog which they linked up on January 27th. For the second year, we are thrilled to expand our invitation for a FREE diversity book to review, along with the optional book extension activity to blog posts, to social media platforms: Instagram, Facebook and YouTube.

In a nutshell; you don’t have to be a blogger to review multicultural children’s books for the MCBD 2018 holiday! You just need to have a love of diversity in children’s literature and be willing to share on your social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, or YouTube. Just pick one of these three social media platforms that you are most comfortable on and post your review for everyone to read and enjoy there. When signing up to be one of our book reviewers simply indicate which platform(s) you plan to post your review on in the “blog URL” space on the below Google sign up form that can be found HERE.

How it All Works: Information for our valued Reviewers During a Multicultural Children’s Book Day Event

Reviewers can sign up via a Google Sign-up and review a multicultural children’s book for this event.

Reviewers are then “matched” with an author or publisher that will supply them with a free children’s book to review. Reviewers are encouraged to read the books and share their thoughts on the book (a basic book review) in the form of a complete review post that can (optional) contain fun book-related activities that will bring the story to life.

Once their book review post is live (any time between January 1 and January 27th is good), reviewers are invited to “link up” their blog post on the Linky that will be found on any of our CoHosts’ sites and also the MCCBD website. This linky will go live on January 27th..

Reviewer sign-up for 1/27/2018 (NOTE: We will not be shipping out any books for the 2018 online event until Nov/Dec of 2017!)
