Ideas from Supporters on how to Celebrate Multicultural Children’s Book Day 2018!

January 18, 2018 by Valarie Budayr

So many amazing parents, teachers, and librarians have been sharing their plans for MCBD, we just had to pass on this magic to our supporters.

This email from Tam Hixson truly made our eyes leak!

“Just a quick update to let you know what MCBD has inspired in Lake Oswego, Oregon….

Last month we had a Kids Bake Sale with a goal to raise $1000. With the support of several individuals, groups, businesses, and local newspaper, we exceeded our goal and raised $1200. We’ve partnered with the school district librarian and 100% of the proceeds purchased a dozen multicultural books for all of the elementary schools in our district.

Part 2 is our upcoming MCBD Read-In at our public library on January 27th! A local children’s book author (Carmen Bernier-Grand) will be kicking off the event. We’ll have special guest readers from the community as well as snacks, cozy ready nooks, and a plethora of books for families to choose from.

From Lake Oswego, thank you for inspiring people of all ages to #ReadYourWorld!” Warmly, Tam Hixson

AWESOME-NESS!

Here are other ways supporters are getting ready for January 27th:

‪ I put up a #ReadYourWorld picture book display at my library today. It’s wonderful to see so many different faces and life experiences. ❤️

Multicultural Children’s Book Day is such an amazing idea to celebrate and bring forward diverse books!
I think that getting children involved in the preparations as well (such as the Kids Bake Day) is a wonderful idea!
It is an honor to get South Africa involved in #ReadYourWorld Multicultural Children’s Book Day 2018!

Help us get diverse Kidlit into schools!
