First conceived by author Rita Toews more than nine years ago as a response to the stagnant acceptance of electronic reading, Read An E-Book Week has slowly built a strong international following among digitally published authors and readers alike.

This year’s event, which began March 5th and carried through to March 11th, brought authors from eleven countries together for a week of e-reading. Many organizations continue to celebrate this event all month-long with e-book reading events and activities. [Read more…]

Connecting our children to South Asia, one book at a time (guest post from Kitaab World)

In many languages, the word ‘Kitaab’ means book, our mission is to connect the world to South Asia, one book at a time, hence the name “KitaabWorld.”

KitaabWorld is a passion project that grew out of our desire to expose our children to fun and engaging books and toys related to South Asia, which comprises of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Myanmar (Burma), Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. It is a region teeming with a lively tradition of storytelling about its diverse histories, cultures, languages, religions and traditions.

As avid readers ourselves, we were very concerned with the lack of South Asian children’s books on our kids’ reading lists. We searched high and low, but sadly found these books amiss in libraries, bookstores and schools. So we thought there has to be an easier way, and set out to find South Asian children’s books. New York, NY (October 29, 2015)—Award-winning writer Lisa Yee will author a middle-grade novel series of titles as part of the recently-announced DC SUPER HERO GIRLS franchise, it was announced today by Random House Books for Young Readers, an imprint of Random House Children’s Books, and Warner Bros. Consumer Products.

This publishing announcement is part of the larger DC SUPER HERO GIRLS franchise that will be available in the spring of 2016 from Random House Books for Young Readers in partnership with Warner Bros. Consumer Products and DC Entertainment. The first of a portfolio of books, all penned by Lisa Yee and edited by Christy Webster, will bring the DC SUPER HERO GIRLS world to life offering all-new stories that will expand the world from what is featured in the animated content and offer new Super Hero adventures.
