Examples of Classroom Fun and Celebration for Multicultural Children’s Book Day 2018!

March 3, 2018 by Valarie Budayr

We’ve invited all of our classrooms and supporters to celebrate The Big Day anytime during 1/22 and 1/27 and we’ve already had some educators and organizations share their ReadYourWorld fun here. The buzz around this event is mind-blowing and we felt compelled to share even more fun images and examples of educators using #Readyourworld to educate Global Citizens:

Sarah Fisk from the Orange County (Orlando) Library System reached out to use in September to share their plans for Local Author Festivals in honor of Multicultural Children’s Book Day! The library had a signing-only author festival with 6 Florida authors from 2 to 4 pm. They also had Crystal Sullivan, the library’s lead storyteller, do a mini storytime for children at 2 and 3pm.

Multicultural Children’s Book Authors showed their support during Orange County Library System’s MCBD event.

Amazing lesson for Multicultural Children’s Book Day!! The book 10 Gulab Jamuns and the sweet treat made with @CampbellOutside were a huge hit with our class! Many thanks to author @SAcharya7 for sharing the book with us! #ReadYourWorld @CampbellAPS @APSVirginia pic.twitter.com/f8MrNsKHtp

Ways to be Gifted as Many as FIVE Diverse Books for Kids!

November 26, 2017 by Valarie Budayr

Multicultural Children’s Book Day (MCBD) is a non-profit co-founded by fellow moms Valarie Budayr and Mia Wenjen who has a vision of helping kids “see themselves” on the pages of the books they read. This event has evolved into something so incredibly wonderful and positive: far more than all of us could have ever imagined.

As we approach our fifth MCBD, I am excited to report that we have so many amazing things planned for our 2018 online event (1/27/18). , This holiday is usually just a one day event, but because since the day of this children’s book-related holiday lands on a Saturday, we decided to get creative on how we can make this one-day event a week-long party!

A huge part of what we do is work with authors and publishers to not only review and give publicity to their multicultural books, but to also spend hundreds of “women-hours” and thousands of dollars to get those books into the hands of young readers. Typically, the majority of our celebration exists online, but after seeing all of the amazing offline festivities that MCBD2017 inspired, we knew we wanted to do something extra special for our next event on 1/27/18. How to Get Involved in Multicultural Children’s Book Day 2018 (for a WEEK!)

October 6, 2017 by Valarie Budayr

As you may know, Multicultural Children’s Book Day (MCCBD) is a non-profit that works with authors to get their books reviewed during our online event and also works to get free diversity children’s books into the hands of young readers. Your readership and support is a gift that we deeply value.

Social media share impressions for Multicultural children's book day

As you may know, the online event/holiday takes place every January 27th and we are now in our 5th year. BUT this year, the official “day” falls on a Saturday. No biggee for most party-goers, but a bit of a style-cramper for educators and librarians.

So what are we doing about it? We’re whooping it up all week long of course!

So starting on January 22nd all the way until the Big Day (1/27/18) we will be encouraging young readers, caregivers, grandparents, parents, teachers and librarians to “party” the week leading up with their own gatherings, booklists, social media tweets and books reviews. Our own reviewers (300+ of them!) will be busy sharing their own multicultural books reviews online and we expect Authors and Sponsors will have some fun and goodies up their sleeves as well.
