2017 MCBD Twitter Party Storified

January 28, 2017 by Valarie Budayr

Thank you to everyone who came to our #ReadYourWorld Twitter Party. We had great participation! On the day of Multicultural Children’s Book Day, January 27th, we trended most of the day as everyone shared their book reviews.
During our Twitter Party at night (901-pm EST), 1900 tweets during that hour caused #ReadYourWorld TO TREND on Twitter at the number two spot. Yes, we actually topped #MuslimBan which was the most serious topic of the weekend.
During our Twitter party, we talked about diversity in children’s book publishing, what gets kids reading, what diversity books people want to see more of, diversity books that are hard to find, ebooks versus paper books, traditional publishers versus self-published, and we celebrated our favorite diversity authors and illustrations with a shout-out.
Many said during the Twitter Party that discussion was a welcome relief to what was happening in the United States. We feel more strongly than ever that getting kids to learn about others not like them, as well as seeing themselves validated in the pages that they read is more important than ever.
Thank you again to everyone for their support of Multicultural Children’s Book Day.
